Vincent Matthews is an Assistant Professor in the Educational Administration program at San Francisco State University (SFSU). He previously served as superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District (2017–2022), Inglewood Unified School District (state-appointed, prior to 2017), and San Jose Unified School District (2011–2016). A native of San Francisco, he completed all his education (B.A., M.A., Ed.D.) at SFSU.

His career spans teaching roles at George Washington Carver Elementary School, leadership positions as principal and assistant principal, and superintendent roles across multiple districts. He is noted for improving academic achievement in San Jose Unified, narrowing racial achievement gaps, and negotiating landmark teacher agreements. Since 2020, he has taught as adjunct faculty in SFSU's ELSIT department before transitioning to his current professorship in 2023.
Research interests focus on equitable educational leadership, systemic reforms in urban schools, and bridging policy with classroom practice.
