Vincent Mase, Jr., MD, FACS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Thoracic) at Yale School of Medicine and Program Director for the Cardiothoracic I-6 Residency. He serves as site director of Bridgeport Hospital Thoracic Surgery and is board-certified in general surgery (ACS) and thoracic surgery (ABTS).
His educational background includes an MD from University of Vermont College of Medicine (2002), BS in Neuroscience from Trinity College (1995), surgical residency at Fletcher Allen Healthcare (2012), internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (2003), and thoracic surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital (2016).
Dr. Mase specializes in surgical treatment of lung cancer, chest wall deformities, and other chest conditions including the diaphragm and esophagus. He treats patients at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, and Park Avenue Medical Center in Trumbull, utilizing minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.
His research focuses on quality outcomes in thoracic surgery, lung cancer screening, and surgical management of early-stage lung cancer. Dr. Mase has published extensively on stage I lung cancer resection strategies, ground-glass nodules, and comparative effectiveness of surgical versus non-surgical approaches. His collaborative research involves colleagues including Justin D. Blasberg, Gavitt Woodard, and Daniel Boffa.

As a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves with nearly 20 years of service, Dr. Mase has served in Schweinfurt, Germany; Seoul, South Korea; and Tikrit, Iraq. He emphasizes patient communication in his practice, stating: "For many of my patients this is their first experience with a life-threatening illness as well as their first experience navigating through a hospital system. It is important to take the time to make sure patients and their family understand both the surgical and non-surgical options."
