Dr. Vincent Croset is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biosciences, Durham University, and a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. He holds a PhD from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), where he studied chemosensory receptors in invertebrates. His research focuses on the interplay between neuronal activity and gene expression in Drosophila, using transcriptomics, behavior, and imaging to uncover mechanisms underlying memory, dopamine signaling, and homeostatic regulation. Key areas include structural plasticity in dopaminergic circuits, thirst regulation via astrocytic signaling, and adult neurogenesis in hippocampal function.
His work has advanced understanding of Drosophila sensory systems, including carbonation detection and hygrosensation, with implications for neurological conditions like addiction and neurodegenerative diseases. Collaborations include projects on tick genomics and ant invasive species biology.
- Education: PhD in Neurosciences, University of Lausanne (2013)
- Research Themes: Neurogenetics, single-cell transcriptomics, dopamine pathways, Drosophila models
Publications highlight contributions to neurotrophin signaling, reward behavior, and neuronal diversity mapping in fly models. He currently supervises eight PhD/MSc students in neurogenetics and transcriptomics.
His lab combines molecular, genetic, and behavioral approaches to bridge activity-dependent gene regulation and neuronal function, with translational goals for neurological therapies.
