Dr. Vinaya Sampath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical, Health and Nutritional Sciences at Long Island University-Post, where she has been teaching since January 2018. She is affiliated with the School of Health Professions and Nursing and contributes to both undergraduate and graduate Allied Health Programs.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Indian Institute of Science
- MS in Biological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science
Dr. Sampath's research focuses on host-microbe interactions, particularly in Gram-negative human pathogens such as Francisella tularensis. Her work explores the role of outer membrane vesicles in microbial pathogenesis and immune modulation. She also has experience in molecular genetics, having studied gene silencing mechanisms in Saccharomyces cerevisiae during her postdoctoral training at Stony Brook University. Her expertise spans microbiology, molecular biology, and biomedical sciences, which she integrates into both teaching and research.
Dr. Sampath teaches a wide range of courses including Microbiology in the Health Sciences, Pathophysiology I, Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical Biochemistry, Research Methods, and Molecular Biology of Cancer. Her recent academic work, though not detailed in publications here, appears to trend toward molecular mechanisms of infection, diagnostic applications, and cancer biology, suggesting a strong interdisciplinary approach in biomedical research.
Professional Affiliations:
- American Association of Microbiology
- American Society of Exosomes and Microvesicles
Dr. Sampath is actively involved in academic service, serving on the LIU-Post Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee, as well as various departmental committees. She mentors undergraduate and graduate students interested in microbiology research and encourages student participation in her lab. While no specific grants are mentioned, her ongoing research and committee roles indicate sustained engagement in scholarly and institutional development.
She is part of a vibrant academic environment within the School of Health Professions and Nursing at LIU-Post, contributing to a multidisciplinary team focused on health sciences education and research.
