Vinay Utham is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Finance and Corporate Governance at Brunel Business School, Brunel University. His research focuses on Hedge Fund Activism, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Governance, and Cryptocurrencies.

Utham’s research explores the mechanisms of hedge fund activism, comparing their efficiency to other shareholder activists, and analyzing investor sentiment toward cryptocurrencies. He also investigates how uncertainty impacts corporate decision-making in mergers and acquisitions.
His recent publications examine gender-diverse boards during the pandemic, the role of derivatives in activism, and gains from takeover deals. These works highlight interdisciplinary intersections between corporate governance, behavioral finance, and crisis management.

Utham teaches courses on Business Financial Technology (MG5649) and Current Issues in Accounting (MG5611). He supervises PhD students in Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, and Shareholder Activism. His professional experience includes a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program candidacy and prior roles as a Teaching Assistant at Durham University and in sales/marketing for an Indian glass manufacturing firm.
