Vilmara Lucas is a course instructor and Ph.D. student at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, where she contributes to social work education and research. She is a registered social worker and mental health practitioner with extensive experience across government, non-profit, and private sectors in Toronto.
Her research focuses on the mental health experiences of Black immigrant professionals in Canada's post-pandemic job market. She integrates research, practice, and advocacy to enhance well-being and opportunities for Black and immigrant communities. In her private practice, Innerme Psychotherapy, she specializes in providing culturally responsive psychotherapy to Portuguese-speaking immigrants.
Vilmara is the recipient of the prestigious Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Doctoral Fellowship, recognizing her scholarly potential and research excellence.
