Professor Vikki Wylde is a Professor of Musculoskeletal Health at the University of Bristol’s Bristol Medical School (THS), affiliated with the Musculoskeletal Research Unit. She holds a B.Sc. from Bristol and a PhD. Her work focuses on musculoskeletal health, chronic pain management, and orthopaedic surgery outcomes.
Research interests include optimizing care pathways for joint replacement patients, such as the STAR care pathway, which addresses chronic pain post-surgery. She studies risk factors for poor outcomes, prehabilitation for frail patients, and interventions to improve inpatient sleep. Her work bridges clinical practice and patient-centered care, emphasizing evidence-based guidelines and reducing healthcare disparities.
Key projects involve feasibility studies for surgical interventions (e.g., prosthetic infection management), qualitative research on patient experiences, and systematic reviews on intra-articular therapies. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and national healthcare bodies to translate research into NHS practice.
Her publications span over 20 years, with recent emphases on pain outcomes, surgical optimization, and healthcare equity. She leads trials to improve patient satisfaction and functional recovery, particularly in multi-ethnic populations. Her work also addresses methodological challenges in clinical trials and patient information accessibility.
