Vikki Barrett serves as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Rights Lab within the University of Nottingham's School of Health Sciences and holds a clinical position as a senior midwife at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. As an early career Clinical Academic supervised by Professor Helen Spiby, she bridges clinical practice and academic research in maternal healthcare.
Her research centers on evidence-based and culturally sensitive trauma-informed care for vulnerable populations during intrapartum (childbirth) care. Barrett actively develops clinical academic networks and prepares for doctoral research to advance trauma-informed models that address health disparities. Her work emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration across healthcare, social justice, and policy domains to improve maternal outcomes for marginalized communities.
Within the Rights Lab's Health and Communities programme, Barrett contributes to cross-sectoral research initiatives focused on translating clinical insights into policy solutions. Her scholarship integrates frontline midwifery experience with academic rigor to promote health equity and human rights in maternity services, particularly for at-risk groups requiring culturally competent care.
