Vijay Kanawade

Vijay Kanawade is a Research Scientist at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) of The Cyprus Institute (CyI), joining in April 2025. He holds a Master of Technology in Atmospheric Physics from Savitribai Phule Pune University, India (2010), and a Ph.D. in Earth Observation Science from the University of Leicester, UK (2010). His career includes postdoctoral roles at Kent State University (2010–2012), Senior Project Scientist at IIT Kanpur (2012–2014), Visiting Researcher at Lund University (2015), and UGC-Assistant Professor at the University of Hyderabad (2016–2023).

His research focuses on airborne aerosol production mechanisms and their impacts on weather, climate, and ecosystems. He specializes in integrating satellite, in-situ, and model-based datasets. At CyI, he investigates aerosol dynamics and their implications in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) region. His expertise spans interdisciplinary approaches to environmental monitoring and climate science.
