Victoria Skerrett is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Allied Health and Programme Lead for the MSc Nursing at Birmingham Newman University. She holds a BA in Divinity from the University of St Andrews, an MA in Religion and Culture from the University of Birmingham, and an MA in the Philosophy and Ethics of Mental Health from the University of Warwick. Her clinical background includes roles as a Registered Mental Health Nurse at Reaside Clinic and community mental health nursing before transitioning to academia in 2008.
Research interests span Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act applications, risk assessment in mental health settings, and intersections between theology/philosophy and mental health. She co-supervised four PhD projects on ADRs in antidepressants, analgesics, antipsychotics for autism, and antiretroviral side effects.
Professional affiliations include Nursing and Midwifery Council registration, Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, and membership in the Graduate Entry Nursing International Network. She serves on the board of the Hearth Centre, exploring mental health through arts, and reviews for the Nursing Times.
Publications focus on nursing education, ADRs, and healthcare system challenges. Recent work examines nursing associate role evolution (2025), fetal/epileptic medication risks (2024), and transgender prisoner experiences (2022).
