Ronnie Meechan

Ronnie Meechan is the Head of School (Associate Dean) of Nursing and Allied Health at Newman University, part of the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies. With a clinical background in oncology, palliative care, and mental health, he transitioned to academia, holding roles at the University of Birmingham, BPP University, and others. His research focuses on educational innovations in nursing (pharmacology, clinical skills) and the impact of Image-Based Sexual Abuse (IBSA) on LGBTQ+ mental health. He has contributed to key conferences and publications globally, including collaborations with the International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR).

Education includes a MSc Nursing (2006), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (2006), and specialized certifications in cancer nursing, HIV/AIDS care, and teaching. He holds a PhD affiliation with the Risk, Abuse and Violence research program at the University of Birmingham.

Awards include the HEFi Teacher of the Year Award (2020) and a 2015 shortlist for the Nursing Times Awards for student support. His work bridges clinical practice and education, with recent focus on pandemic-related nursing challenges and LGBTQ+ health disparities. Professional memberships include the Royal College of Nursing, NMC registration, and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

His research networks span Europe, North America, and beyond, addressing IBSA and global health equity. He participates in the International Student Training Network (ISTN) analyzing LGBTQ+ youth resilience strategies.
