Victoria S Akin is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Mathematics at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (2017) in geometric group theory, focusing on mapping class groups. Her current research emphasizes mathematics education, particularly the retention of women in STEM through initiatives like the Girls Exploring Math (GEM) program. She co-directs this outreach effort, which engages middle school girls in problem-solving workshops and addresses social constructs impacting math self-concept.
