Victoria Lawson is a Professor of Geography at the University of Washington, where she previously served as Chair of the Department of Geography. She is co-founder of the Relational Poverty Network and former President of the Association of American Geographers (AAG). Her research focuses on critical poverty studies, feminist care ethics, and spatial analyses of inequality, race, and social alliances. She has authored influential works such as Encountering Poverty (2014) and co-edited the Progress Handbook of Human Geography (2014).
Lawson has received the Marsha Landolt Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award for her academic mentorship. Her work bridges theory and practice, engaging with marginalized communities to address systemic inequities. Active in interdisciplinary collaborations, she co-leads the Middle Class Poverty Politics Research Group and contributes to global initiatives like the Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography. Her recent scholarship examines the intersection of race, ethnicity, and poverty in North American urban contexts, as seen in her Annals of the AAG publication (2010).
