Professor Victoria Cornelius is a Professor of Medical Statistics and Clinical Trial Methodology at the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. She serves as Director of the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit (ICTU) and Co-Director of the NIHR Research Support Service Imperial College London and Partners Hub.
Her educational background includes:
- 1st class BSc in Mathematics (1997)
- PhD in Statistics (2000)
Victoria's research focuses on evaluating drugs and complex interventions through adaptive trial designs in Bayesian and frequentist frameworks, with emphasis on improving adverse event analysis in clinical trials and developing methodologies for restricted sample sizes. Her work spans clinical sciences, public health, cardiorespiratory medicine, pharmacology, oncology, and immunology, integrating statistical innovation with practical medical applications.
As a leader in clinical trials methodology, she established Imperial's Trial Methodology Group in 2019 (leading until 2022), became Head of Statistics and Trial Methodology in 2020, and assumed her current Chair and ICTU Director roles in 2023. She co-directs the NIHR Research Support Service Hub, providing critical methodological guidance for research design across Imperial and partner institutions.
Victoria directs the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit and co-leads the NIHR Research Support Service Hub, overseeing teams that deliver statistical expertise and trial design support for national clinical research initiatives.
