Victor Peterson II

Victor Peterson II is Assistant Professor of Humanities at The Cooper Union, specializing in Black Cultural studies and articulation theory. His research examines how relations of dominance emerge through socio-cultural institutions and movements.

Current book project analyzes sound and movement through mosh pits as models for understanding socio-cultural formations as complex adaptive systems, building on Black scholars' theories of collective improvisation.

Publications explore philosophical frameworks of Black subjectivity, cultural articulation, temporality, and critical race theory. Recent articles investigate paradoxes of identity formation, cultural value systems, and definitional politics within racialized contexts across philosophy and cultural studies.

Fellowships include positions at Institutes for Advanced Study in Johannesburg, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and Rutgers University's Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice.
