Victor Mehnert

Victor Mehnert is a Researcher at the Chair of Civil Law, Information and Data Law at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, focusing on the intersection of technology, consumer rights, and environmental law. He completed his legal studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University of Cologne, passing his first state exam in 2019. Previously, he served as Managing Director of the Competence Center for Legal Learning and Teaching at the University of Cologne (2022–2023) and contributed to the DFG-funded project comparing smart technologies and consumer laws in Germany and the UK. His doctoral research addresses the 'right to repair.' Since September 2024, he has been a legal trainee at Cologne Regional Court.

Key research interests include ecodesign regulations, product liability, and sustainable legal frameworks. His work bridges theoretical legal analysis with applied policy advocacy, as seen in his 2022 Policy Brief Right to Repair co-authored with experts like Hans-W. Micklitz. He frequently presents at academic and policy forums, such as the European Law Institute webinar (2023) and the HHU Düsseldorf Right to Repair discussion (2023).

Mehnert’s publications explore contractual obligations, consumer empowerment, and legal mechanisms for circular economy implementation. He collaborates with institutions like the German Council of Experts on Consumer Affairs and contributes to the Research Center for Legal Issues of New Technologies and Data Law (ForTech eV).
