COL Victor M. Deekens serves as Dean of the United States Military Academy Preparatory School and holds an academic appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at the United States Military Academy (West Point).
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Learning Sciences and Psychological Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- M.S. in Information Technology Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus
- M.A. in Educational Psychology, Measurement, and Evaluation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia
Research Interests: His work centers on self-regulated learning, epistemic cognition, and digital literacy, with emphasis on their interdisciplinary intersections. This research sits at the nexus of educational psychology and learning sciences, examining how individuals manage learning processes, conceptualize knowledge structures, and navigate digital environments.
Professional Experience: Commissioned in 1999, he has held diverse leadership roles including platoon leader, battalion operations officer with the 57th Signal Battalion at Fort Cavazos, commander of three units in the 25th Infantry Division (with Iraq deployment), and Communications Advisor (G6) for the 8th Theater Sustainment Command. His service includes deployments to Afghanistan and Germany, with academic appointments at West Point spanning Assistant Professor and psychology program director roles prior to his current deanship.
