Victor Frans is a Research Fellow specializing in Medieval Studies at the University of Oslo's Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies, within the Faculty of Humanities. His doctoral research focuses on Saxo Grammaticus’ reinterpretation of Old Norse poetry in Gesta Danorum. Frans holds a BA in Latin (2013), a BA in Nordic Languages (2015), and an MA in Viking and Medieval Studies (2019). His work bridges Old Norse philology, runology, and Latin scholarship.
Research interests include Skaldic Poetry, Eddic Poetry, Runology, and the interplay between Latin and Norse linguistic traditions. He has presented at conferences such as 'Sous le signe de Saxo' (2023), exploring Saxo’s use of alleged runic sources, and 'Latin–Norse Translation' (2019), analyzing the Third Grammatical Treatise.
Frans is affiliated with the project Old Norse Poetry and the Development of Saga Literature (2021–2025) and has contributed to initiatives like The Legacy of Birgitta of Sweden. His publications address Saxo’s Latin style and the origins of runes. He writes popular science articles on Latinitium, focusing on Viking-era linguistics and classical traditions.
