Victor-Emmanuel BRUNEL serves as a Full Professor in the Statistics department at ENSAE Paris, where he is a permanent member of CREST (Center for Research in Economics and Statistics). His academic profile reflects significant expertise at the intersection of geometry and mathematical statistics.
His educational background includes a PhD in Statistics completed in 2014 through a joint program at Université Pierre et Marie Curie and the University of Haifa, supervised by Alexandre Tsybakov and Alexander Goldenshluger. Professional experience spans from his membership in the Corps des Administrateurs de l'INSEE since 2009, to positions as Instructor in MIT's Department of Mathematics (2015-2018), and his current professorship at ENSAE since 2018.
Professor BRUNEL's research focuses on geometric estimation, statistical processes, and robustness in statistical methodology, with particular emphasis on applications in nonlinear spaces. He actively contributes to the field through academic leadership, recently co-organizing a seminar series on Geometry and Mathematical Statistics starting in January 2024 and a workshop on Statistics in Metric Spaces held at ENSAE in October 2023.
As an academic supervisor, he has guided PhD research since at least 2020, currently overseeing Gabriel Romon's dissertation on statistical inference in nonlinear spaces. His dual role within both academic and governmental statistical institutions (INSEE) provides unique perspective bridging theoretical research and practical statistical applications.
