He currently leads the Dutch Research Council (NWO)-funded project 'Modern Worldviews and Culture Wars', examining the global development of 'worldview' as a key academic and public discourse concept.
His PhD research (based on 14 months of fieldwork in Ecuadorian Amazonia) explored Evangelical missionary-Shuar indigenous relations, emphasizing Bible translation and theological dynamics. Postdoctoral work investigated post-neoliberal transformations in Ecuador, focusing on Indigenous activism and LGBT movements under Rafael Correa's administration. He also contributed to the 'Poverty Work' project in Denmark, analyzing marginalized youth engagement in urban planning and counter-cultural movements.
Cova's research spans Amazonian ethnography, transnational religious dynamics, and socio-political activism, with an emphasis on Latin America and Europe. His recent articles address topics ranging from Amazonian cosmologies to the global circulation of shamanic practices.
