Vicky Vlachou is a Visiting Professor at the European University Nicosia, Cyprus, and holds an Adjunct Professor position at the same institution. She also serves as a Full-time Researcher at the École française d’Athènes in Athens and has been affiliated with the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Ancient History and Classical Archaeology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, an MA in Classical Archaeology, and undergraduate studies in History, Archaeology, and Art History from the same institution.
Her research focuses on the Early Iron Age Aegean and Mediterranean regions, with particular emphasis on funerary practices, pottery analysis, and social identity reconstruction. Key projects include studies of burial sites at Marathon and Oropos, as well as excavations into Protogeometric and Sub-Protogeometric periods. She has also explored gender roles in religious practices and the material culture of early Greek communities.
Dr. Vlachou has led major research initiatives such as the ESF-funded 'The Geometric Pottery from Marathon in Context' project, examining pottery production and social differentiation. She has contributed to international exhibitions like CERAMED and has been recognized with the prestigious G. P. Oikonomos award for her doctoral work on Geometric Oropos. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges archaeological method, material culture analysis, and social history, making significant contributions to understanding ancient Mediterranean societies.
