Dr. Vicki Isola is a retired Professor in the Department of Biology at Hope College. Her primary teaching responsibilities included Biology 103 (Introduction to Cell Biology) and Biology 231 (Microbiology for Allied Health Professions), foundational courses for nursing students. She specialized in biology education with a focus on enhancing scientific understanding among non-science majors and improving retention of underrepresented students in health sciences. Her pedagogical innovations include active learning strategies and a learning assistant program for Biology 103. She collaborated with Dr. Maria Burnatowska-Hledin on monoclonal antibody research targeting VCAM-1.

Her research interests span immunology, microbiology, and science education. She has published work on herpes simplex virus glycoproteins, environmental mutagens, and science reference materials. Awards include the National Academies Education Fellowship (2015–2016) and grants from NIH, PEW, and Hope College.
Dr. Isola has led Science Olympiad teams at L.E. White Middle School and Allegan High School for eight years, promoting STEM engagement among youth. She also pursues creative writing, having drafted a young adult fiction novel through NaNoWriMo and Hope College's Faculty Writing Camp.
