Dr Vicencio Oostra is a Senior Lecturer and Future Leaders Fellow at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. He is also part of the Centre for Evolutionary and Functional Genomics, Centre for Biodiversity and Sustainability, and Centre for Molecular Cell Biology. His research focuses on evolutionary adaptation, phenotypic plasticity, and biodiversity conservation, particularly in tropical butterflies.
His lab integrates developmental biology, genomics, and ecology to study how environmental changes impact species resilience. Key projects include understanding climate change adaptation mechanisms and genomic responses to environmental stressors. Oostra leads a £1.4 million Medical Research Council grant investigating developmental pathways and evolutionary adaptation to climate change.
- Research Interests: Tropical butterflies, gene regulation, population genomics, and ecological resilience.
- Grants: Future Leadership Fellowship (£1,404,707, 2022–2026).
- Team: Collaborates with Dr Madeleine Carruthers and Dr Océane Seudre in research and grants.
Publications highlight genomic approaches to biodiversity challenges, with recent work on butterfly plasticity mechanisms and climate adaptation. Research outputs span genomics, ecology, and evolutionary biology, emphasizing interdisciplinary methods.
