Vesela Veleva

Vesela Veleva is a Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston, part of the College of Management. Her research focuses on integrating sustainability into organizational strategies, evaluating sustainability practices, and developing business cases for environmental and social responsibility. She has held roles at institutions like the Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College and has consulted for organizations such as Pure Strategies Inc. and Sustainable Measures, Inc. She holds a ScD in Cleaner Production and Pollution Prevention from UMass Lowell, an MSc in Pollution and Environmental Control from the University of Manchester, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria.

Her research interests include circular business models, toxics use reduction, green chemistry, eco-industrial parks, and the social impacts of emerging technologies like nanotechnology. She has published extensively in journals such as the Journal of Cleaner Production and ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, and authored the book Business, Environment, and Society: Themes and Cases (2014). Her work emphasizes practical applications of sustainability, including case studies on breweries, pharmaceuticals, and eco-industrial parks.

Dr. Veleva has received several grants and awards, including a 2022 EPA grant for pollution prevention in Massachusetts breweries and the 2020 Corcoran College of Management Endowed Summer Teaching Fellowship. Her research consistently bridges academic inquiry with real-world sustainability challenges, particularly in advancing circular economy principles and green chemistry adoption across industries.

In teaching, she instructs courses on environmental management, corporate social responsibility, and sustainable innovation. Her work often highlights the intersection of business practices and environmental stewardship, advocating for measurable sustainability outcomes through collaborative strategies and policy frameworks.
