Prof. Dr. Veronika Bachmann is a Professor of Biblical Introduction and Biblical Auxiliary Sciences at the University of Würzburg's Faculty of Catholic Theology. She joined Würzburg in April 2025 after serving as a Private Lecturer at the University of Tübingen and Head of Theology at the Paulus Academy in Zurich (2022–2025). Her research examines cultural-religious transformations in ancient Palestine/Israel, Hellenistic Torah discourses, and biblical textual pluriformity, emphasizing the shared Judeo-Christian heritage of scriptural texts.
Bachmann holds a doctorate (2010) and habilitation (2022) in Old Testament studies from the Universities of Zurich and Tübingen. Her education includes theology, ancient Near Eastern studies, and philosophy at the Universities of Fribourg, Bern, and Tübingen.
Her publications focus on biblical hermeneutics, apocalyptic literature, and identity discourses in texts like Esther and Enoch. Recent work explores narrative strategies, gender dynamics, and theological ambiguities in Hellenistic-Roman Judaic traditions. Awarded multiple Swiss National Science Foundation grants and a Women and Gender Studies Prize, she contributes to societies including the Society of Biblical Literature and European Association of Biblical Studies.
