Andrei A. Orlov serves as Professor in the Department of Theology at Marquette University, specializing in Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity. His work bridges ancient Jewish religious traditions and early Christian developments through rigorous textual analysis of apocalyptic and mystical literature.
Orlov holds dual doctoral qualifications: a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Russian Academy of Sciences (1990) and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Marquette University (2003). This interdisciplinary foundation informs his unique approach to ancient religious texts.
His research concentrates on Jewish apocalyptic traditions—particularly Enochic literature and Pseudepigrapha—and their formative influence on Christian origins. With 26 authored books, 17 edited volumes, and over fifty scholarly publications, Orlov demonstrates sustained expertise in reconstructing the Jewish matrix of early Christianity. His teaching portfolio includes specialized courses on Christian Origins, Pseudepigrapha, and Enoch literature, reflecting deep engagement with primary sources and historical contexts.
