Dr. Jan Dochhorn is an Associate Professor of New Testament at the Department of Theology and Religion, Durham University. His research focuses on early Christian and Jewish texts, particularly the Apocrypha/Pseudepigrapha, Pauline epistles, and theological developments in early Judaism and Christianity. He has received research funding for editorial work on Paris manuscripts and supervises PhD students including Amy Saunders, Jack Voigt, and Michael Evanson.
His research interests include Falasha Studies, Oriental Christianity, and the devil's portrayal in ancient religious texts. He has published extensively on topics such as Galatians' theology of circumcision, Lukan parables, and apocalyptic symbolism in Revelation. His work often bridges Jewish and Christian textual traditions, contextualizing early Christian thought within broader Second Temple Judaism and Hellenistic contexts.
Recent publications include studies on Paul's cosmological views in Romans 8, the role of presbyters in the Book of Revelation, and intertextual references to Genesis narratives in the Maccabean texts. His 2014 book Testament Jakobs explores Jewish-Christian apocryphal traditions, while his edited volume Das Böse, der Teufel und Dämonen examines demonology in ancient religious thought.
Dr. Dochhorn maintains active research collaborations and has presented at international conferences on topics like early Christian ethics and the reception history of biblical narratives. His current projects continue exploring intersections between Jewish and Christian exegesis in late antiquity.
