Veronica Godoy-Carter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at Northeastern University's College of Science. Her research focuses on bacterial DNA damage responses (DDR), mutagenic Y-family DNA polymerases, and their roles in antibiotic resistance. She leads the Godoy Lab, which employs genetic, molecular, biochemical, and imaging approaches to study mechanisms in pathogens like Acinetobacter baumannii.
Research Interests: The lab investigates bimodal regulation of DDR in A. baumannii, which forms subpopulations with distinct DDR expression levels, contrasting with the E. coli paradigm. Additionally, they study protein complexes involving DinB DNA polymerase, RecA, and UmuD2 to understand mutagenesis regulation. Recent work includes sequencing the genome of Patagonian 'living rocks,' revealing insights into early life origins.
