Veronica Biga is a Research Fellow at the Division of Developmental Biology & Medicine at the University of Sheffield. Her work focuses on understanding developmental mechanisms through quantitative analysis of stem cell cultures, signaling pathways, and gene regulatory networks. She holds a BEng and a PhD in Automated Image Analysis and Quantitative Modelling of Stem Cell Cultures from the University of Sheffield, awarded in 2011. Prior to her current role, she was a Research Associate at the same institution from 2011 to 2015.
Her research interests include Notch signaling pathways, neurogenesis, transcription factor dynamics, and computational modeling of cellular processes. She employs advanced image analysis techniques and computational biology to study stem cell behavior, particularly in spinal cord and pancreatic development. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to advancing health and well-being through biomedical research.
Biga has published extensively on topics such as cellular protrusion dynamics, HES protein oscillations, and miRNA regulation in neurogenesis. She collaborates internationally and has been featured in media for her research on human embryonic stem cells and stem cell imaging. Her studies highlight the importance of quantitative approaches in deciphering developmental processes and their phenotypic robustness.
