Laure Bally-Cuif is a leading researcher in developmental and neural biology, currently serving as Head of the Zebrafish Neurogenetics laboratory at Institut Pasteur and Deputy Head of the Department of Developmental Biology and Stem cells. She also leads the CNRS Research Unit UMR3738. Her career includes roles as Research Director (CNRS), Department Leader at HelmholtzZentrum München, and Professorships in Germany. She holds a PhD from University Paris 6 and conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University and GSF-Research Centre.
Her research focuses on neural stem cells, neurogenesis, and developmental processes using zebrafish models, particularly exploring Notch signaling, microRNAs, and cellular quiescence. She has received prestigious awards including the CNRS Silver Medal and EMBO membership. Her work bridges molecular mechanisms with behavioral outcomes, such as linking lphn3.1 gene variants to ADHD-like behaviors. Key grants include an ERC Advanced Grant and ANR Chair of Excellence.
Bally-Cuif’s lab investigates adult neurogenesis, stem cell niches, and the evolutionary basis of brain architecture. Collaborations span molecular, genetic, and live-imaging techniques, with a focus on translational insights from zebrafish models to human neuroscience.
