Verghese Cherian

Verghese Cherian, MD, MBBS is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Pennsylvania State University's College of Medicine. He serves as Chief of the Division of Multi-Specialty Anesthesia, ENT Anesthesia, Neuro-Anesthesia, and OB Anesthesia. His clinical expertise includes Multispecialty Anesthesia management at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Education: MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College (1983), followed by residencies at Maulana Azad Medical College (1983-1986), Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital (1986-1989), and Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (1989-1999). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFARCSI).

Research focuses on anesthesia-related physiology, pain management, and clinical trials. Key areas include postoperative care, regional anesthesia techniques, and therapeutic applications of ultrasonography. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.

Recent publications explore instrumentation physics in anesthesia, postoperative period management, and analgesic efficacy of epidural ketamine. He has authored chapters in major textbooks like Basic Sciences in Anesthesia and Blood Substitutes and Oxygen Biotherapeutics.
