Veneta Ivanova is a Research Fellow at the Research Centre for Modern History, Panteion University (Athens), specializing in cultural and intellectual history of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. She previously held positions as Visiting Assistant Professor of East Central European History at the College of William & Mary and fellowships at the Center of Advanced Studies (CAS, Sofia) and the European University Institute. Her research explores socialism, occultism, religion, and utopia in 20th-century Europe, with a focus on Bulgaria's intellectual transitions from socialism to neoliberalism.
Education: PhD in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Research Interests: Her work examines post-socialist intelligentsia marginalization, cultural dynamics under state socialism, and the intersection of religion/science with utopian ideologies. Current project investigates Bulgarian intellectuals' shifting roles during the 1989 transition, analyzing archival materials, memoirs, and oral histories to understand cultural-political transformations.
