Associate Professor Vedna Jivan is a prominent academic and legal professional at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), serving as the founding director of UNSW's PLT Program since 2018. She holds a dual affiliation with the School of Law, Society & Criminology and is actively involved in legal education and social justice advocacy. Prior to UNSW, she taught at UTS Law for 14 years, where she was a Senior Lecturer and PLT Director. Her career spans over 20 years in legal education, clinical supervision, and social justice initiatives.
Her research focuses on anti-discrimination, gender equality, tort law, and innovative legal education. She has collaborated with international organizations like UN Women, UNDP, and the Asian Development Bank, contributing to global legal frameworks. Vedna is recognized nationally for her teaching excellence, having received the Australian Universities Teaching Award and UNSW’s Vice Chancellor’s Award.
She currently chairs the NSW Legal Aid Commission Human Rights Committee and serves on the Australasian Professional Legal Education Council (APLEC). Her work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing practical legal training and human rights advocacy.
