Vedat Verter is a Professor and Stephen J.R. Smith Chair of Management Analytics at Queen's University's Smith School of Business. Previously, he held the McConnell Endowed Chair and chaired the Supply Chain Management Department at Michigan State University. He has over two decades of experience at McGill University, where he was a James McGill Professor. His research focuses on operations research and data analytics applied to public policy, healthcare, and socially responsible supply chains. He has authored over 80 journal articles and supervised 18 PhD students and 25 post-doctoral fellows.
Verter's work spans healthcare analytics (e.g., surgical scheduling, mental health outcomes), hazardous materials logistics (risk assessment, transport networks), and sustainability (product reuse, environmental policy). He has led initiatives such as the NSERC CREATE Program in Healthcare Operations and served as Editor-in-Chief of Socio-Economic Planning Sciences. Awards include nominations for NSERC Research Chair and the Best Advisor Award from McGill’s Doctoral Students Society.
- Grants: Current NSERC Discovery Grant ($210K) focuses on mental health analytics. Recent grants include $204K from Ontario Ministry of Health for pandemic impact analysis and a $290K MSU grant on mass timber research.
- Leadership: Former Chair of Supply Chain Management at MSU, Founding Director of McGill’s Healthcare Lab, and leader in POMS and INFORMS societies.
- Awards: Highlights include the Barbaros Tansel Memorial Lecture (2013), Plenary Speaker roles at global conferences, and multiple teaching/service recognitions.
His current research explores predictive analytics in mental health, sustainable operations, and healthcare system efficiency. He advises doctoral student Mohammad Reza Mehrpour at Queen’s University.
