Vaughn Mangal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Brock University. He leads the Brock University Biochemistry Lab (BUBL) investigating molecular properties of dissolved and soil organic matter in changing environments. His research examines how land use changes and climate impacts affect metal biogeochemistry across terrestrial-aquatic systems.
Mangal's work integrates metabolomics approaches to study microbial adaptations to metal stress. Current projects investigate mercury cycling in boreal ecosystems, biogeochemical consequences of permafrost thaw, and wildfire impacts on metal transport. His laboratory employs advanced mass spectrometry techniques to characterize organic matter-metal interactions.
He teaches analytical and environmental chemistry courses including Introduction to Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and Instrumental Analysis. Mangal maintains collaborations with government and industry partners to address environmental challenges related to water quality and ecosystem health.
