Dr. Vasiliki Koutra is a Lecturer in Statistics at King's College London's Department of Mathematics, part of the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences. She previously held roles at the University of Southampton (as a senior medical statistician) and Rothamsted Research (in Bioinformatics and Applied Statistics groups). Her research focuses on developing experimental design methodologies for networks, with applications in healthcare, agriculture, and business. She is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and the Greek Statistical Institute.
Education:
- BSc in Mathematics, University of Ioannina
- MSc and PhD in Statistics, University of Southampton
Research Interests: Optimal experimental design, multi-objective experimentation, network dynamics, and statistical applications in medical and agricultural contexts. Collaborates with the Alan Turing Institute and medical researchers on projects like cancer, diabetes, and chronic heart failure studies.
Recent Work: Investigates efficient experimental designs for large networks to estimate direct/indirect effects, bridging computational gaps in networked experiments. Co-led projects include vocal audio datasets for pandemic monitoring and AI's role in disease screening.
Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society
- Fellow of the Greek Statistical Institute
- Shortlisted: L'Oréal-UNESCO Rising Talents Award (2021)
Grants & Collaborations: Co-Investigator on EPSRC-funded 'Multi-objective optimal design of experiments' project (2020-2025). Organized the DANE 2024 workshop on networked experiments.
Labs/Teams: Part of King's Statistics group, contributing to interdisciplinary projects like the Alan Turing Institute's data science initiatives.
