Vanitha Sundra-Karean

Dr. Vanitha Sundra-Karean is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law and Justice, University of Southern Queensland, with a focus on employment law, equity, and constitutional law. Her career spans over 33 years of tertiary teaching and administrative leadership as Program Director for the Master of Laws program.

• Education: LLB (Hons) from London, LLM from Malaya, PhD from Queensland.

Her research explores the intersection of socio-legal frameworks and economic dynamics in employment law, with a particular emphasis on Malaysia and comparative legal systems. She has published extensively on topics including judicial power in transplanted constitutions, soft law mechanisms for migrant worker protection, and the evolution of industrial tribunals.

She received recognition from the International Labour Organization, Geneva in 2017 for her work on employment relationships in emerging economies. Her teaching portfolio includes LAW1127 Equity and Trusts, LAW5127 Advanced Equity and Trusts, and LAW3442 Employment Law.

As an accredited Malay translator and non-accredited Tamil translator, she contributes to legal discourse in multilingual contexts, with affiliations to the Australian Labour Law Association and LAWASIA.
