Vanessa Platacis is a Professor of Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since 2009, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in painting, drawing, color theory, mixed media, and art theory. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges traditional techniques with digital processes, performance, and collaborative practices in creative industries.

- B.F.A. in Art from New Mexico State University
Her research focuses on contemporary painting practices, installation art, and time-based media. She has pioneered digital media curriculum development and served on multiple academic committees, including graduate review and thesis supervision. Her artistic pseudonym Pixnit produced large-scale installations and performances, including the 2011 Death by Misadventure and 2010 Folie que la Nouveaute at deCordova Museum.
Vanessa's publications in Artpulse Magazine and Big Red and Shiny highlight her contributions to art criticism and education. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the 2017 PEN/Toni and James C. Goodale Freedom of Expression Courage Award and the 2014 SCAD Ambassador's Choice Award. She has curated exhibitions globally, including at Scope International Art Fair (Basel, 2007) and Adams Artspace (Harvard University, 2003).
