Vanessa Manko is a Part-Time Lecturer at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, New York University. She holds a B.A. in English from the University of Connecticut (1998), an M.A. in Individualized Study from NYU Gallatin (2001), and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Hunter College, CUNY (2008).
Her research and creative work intersect dance and literature, reflecting her training in ballet and roles as former Dance Editor of The Brooklyn Rail. Her debut novel The Invention of Exile (2014) explores themes of displacement and identity, earning recognition as a Kirkus Reviews Best Book and Barnes & Noble Discover pick. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, Granta, and The Paris Review, alongside dance-focused outlets like Dance Magazine and Dance Research Journal.
