Maya Berry is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a BA from NYU Gallatin (2006) in Cultural Anthropology, Latin American and Caribbean History, Dance, Languages, and Post-Colonial Studies, an MA in Performance Studies from NYU, and a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music. Her research interests span cultural anthropology, post-colonial studies, and the intersection of dance with historical and sociopolitical contexts, informed by her travels and fieldwork in Cuba, Vietnam, and Brazil.
