Vanessa Haller-Bull is a Researcher at the University of Queensland. She holds a PhD in Quantitative Marine Science, supported by the Aims@ JCU 4-year scholarship. Her work bridges ecology and theoretical management, focusing on coral reef resilience under climate change. Originally from Germany, she developed a passion for marine ecosystems during a childhood diving experience in Egypt.
Her research investigates multi-threat management strategies for ecosystems, comparing approaches across systems to address uncertainty and complexity. She collaborates with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, headquartered at James Cook University (2005–2022), and has conducted fieldwork in Papua New Guinea on surgeonfish ecology under Prof. Geoffrey Jones.
Her recent publications explore coral genetic responses to historical climate shifts and socioeconomic vulnerabilities in tropical fisheries. Supervised by Dr. Michael Bode and Prof. Garry Russ, her doctoral work emphasizes practical solutions for marine conservation amid global environmental challenges.
