Susannah Leahy is a Researcher affiliated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, which was headquartered at James Cook University from 2005 to 2022. She serves as a Senior Fisheries Scientist with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Cairns, applying academic research to practical resource management.
She earned her PhD from James Cook University in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Garry Russ, Dr. Rene Abesamis, and Prof. Michael Kingsford, establishing her academic credentials in marine science.
Her research expertise spans multiple technical domains critical to marine conservation:
- Coral reef ecology and ecosystem dynamics
- Remote sensing using satellite and drone technologies
- Spatial analysis of marine environments
- Ecological modeling for predictive management
- Statistical analysis of environmental data
Her work bridges academic research and practical application, focusing on sustainable management of Queensland's marine resources through evidence-based approaches that connect scientific understanding with real-world policy implementation.
