Vanessa Cornett-Murtada is a Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy at the University of St. Thomas, where she also serves as Director of Keyboard Studies. Her academic affiliation is within the College of Arts and Sciences’ Music, Film & Creative Enterprise department. She holds a DMA in Piano Performance and Literature from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, alongside degrees from West Virginia University and a graduate certificate in Sport Psychology from California Southern University.
Dr. Cornett’s research focuses on performance anxiety management, mindfulness in music education, musician wellness, and anti-racist pedagogy. She authored The Mindful Musician: Mental Skills for Peak Performance (Oxford University Press, 2019) and has published extensively in journals such as International Journal of Music Education and Journal of Contemplative Inquiry. Her work integrates contemplative practices with music performance, trauma-sensitive pedagogy, and interdisciplinary approaches to music education.

- Global Engagement: 2022-2023 Fulbright Scholar at Ankara University of Music and Fine Arts; multiple international teaching residencies in Türkiye, Argentina, Colombia, and others.
- Committees: Member of NASM Psychological Health Task Force, National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy Wellness Committee, and Minnesota Music Teachers Association Wellness Forum.
Her courses include Contemporary Practices in Music Education, Performance Study: Piano, and Music and Culture: Bach to Rock. She founded the St. Thomas Project for Mindfulness and Contemplation.
