Vanessa Carbonell

Dr. Vanessa Carbonell is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Obed J. Wilson Professor of Ethics at the University of Cincinnati. Her research bridges ethical theory, metaethics, and moral psychology, with emphases on moral agency, sacrifice, and bioethics. She directs UC's Bioethics Certificate program and served as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Philosophy (2017-2024).

Research Themes: Moral motivation, oppressive structures in healthcare, envy in moral psychology, and ethical responses to crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Publications: Include works on materialized oppression in medicine, moral envy, and relational well-being. Her book chapters and articles critically examine systemic biases in healthcare tools and spaces.
