Vance Smith is a Professor at Princeton University's Department of English. His research bridges African and decolonial studies with medieval literature and theory, focusing on Africanfuturism, colonial administration origins, ecocriticism, and medieval philosophy. He lives in Trenton and actively engages in community initiatives, serving as Board Chair of Artworks and Vice-President of Passage Theatre. Smith's work challenges traditional Eurocentric frameworks through interdisciplinary approaches, integrating African and medieval European intellectual traditions.
