Dr. Vanathi Gopalakrishnan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh, within the School of Computing and Information. Her work focuses on developing intelligent systems to reduce disease burden through advanced computational methods applied to biomedical data.
Dr. Gopalakrishnan holds a terminal degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Her research emphasizes rule learning algorithms, Bayesian statistics, and multi-modal data integration for biomarker discovery and precision medicine. Key applications include cancer subtyping, cardiovascular disease monitoring, and parasitic infection detection through microbiome analysis.
Her publications highlight innovations like the cMRI-BED framework for cardiac MRI biomarkers and KARL (Knowledge-Augmented Rule Learning) for biomarker discovery. She has received the Marco Ramoni Distinguished Paper Award for work on lung cancer epigenetic analysis.
Dr. Gopalakrishnan’s work bridges machine learning and clinical practice, addressing challenges such as imputation methods for cardiac imaging data and explainable AI in diagnostic decision-making.
