Valeska Flor is a Research Fellow at the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, where she leads the 'Culture' sub-area since September 2023. Previously, she served as a Postdoc at the University of Bonn (2019–2023) and held research roles at the University of Innsbruck (2012–2021). She defended her PhD thesis on autobiographical narratives in resettlement processes related to open-cast mining at the University of Innsbruck in June 2019. Her current habilitation project, How to Train Climate Active Citizens, explores climate knowledge negotiation and conflicts between everyday and scientific knowledge systems.
Research interests include climate anthropology, energy studies, narrative analysis, activism, museum studies, and science communication. She has led projects such as Urban Cultures During and After the Pandemic (Argelander Grant, €25,000) and collaborated on exhibitions like Negotiations of Rurality (€35,000). She holds teaching qualifications from the University of Bonn’s NRW Certificate Program for Professional Teaching Competence (2015–2017).
Academic memberships include the German Society for Empirical Cultural Studies (DGEKW), DFG Network “Experience,” International Society for Ethnology and Folklore (SIEF), and the Tübingen Association for Empirical Cultural Studies. She has received grants such as the Innsbruck University Doctoral Fellowship (2012–2014) and the Richard und Emmy Bahr Scholarship (2010).
