معرفی
Valerie Rodrigues is a postdoctoral research scientist at Aberystwyth University's Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), specializing in sustainable protein development from non-traditional biomass sources like seaweed and grasses. Her work addresses environmental and food security challenges through biotechnological innovation.
Education:
- BSc in Biochemistry & Botany
- MSc in Biochemistry
- PhD in Biotechnology (green seaweed biomass valorization)
Research focuses on enzymatic breakdown of marine polysaccharides, particularly ulvan and cellulose, using bacterial systems. Current projects include recombinant sulfatase production and simultaneous saccharification-fermentation technology for macroalgal bloom valorization.
Recent publications (2017-2024) demonstrate expertise in Vibrio-associated enzyme characterization, cellulase applications, and polysaccharide conversion. Collaborations span UK institutions with SDG-aligned impacts in environmental sustainability.
Scientific awards:
- Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship
- EMBO Scientific Exchange Grant
- Joy Welch Research Fund
- BPS-funded 2025 project
Grants: Secured £300,000+ in research funding. Active in international collaborations and media-covered projects like MACSSFT (Horizon Discovery-funded).
