Valerie Mueller is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University's School of Politics and Global Studies, and a Nonresident Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). Her research focuses on agricultural economics, climate change impacts, migration dynamics, and rural development in Africa and Asia.

Research themes include: quantifying rural vulnerability to climate variability (migration, nutrition, and health impacts); improving rural service delivery through randomized controlled trials; and analyzing youth employment prospects in Africa. Her work has been published in prestigious journals like Nature Climate Change, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and American Economic Review, with significant media coverage in outlets like Le Monde and Science.
She actively collaborates with donor communities and policymakers, maintaining ties with IFPRI while engaging in field experiments across East Africa. Her recent projects include analyzing cash transfer programs in Bangladesh and Mali, and applying machine learning to study climate-related migration patterns.
