Valerie Jochen is a Professor of Practice in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University's College of Engineering. She earned her Ph.D. (1994), M.S. (1991), and B.S. (1979) in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University. With 37 years of industry experience including retirement from Schlumberger, her expertise focuses on unconventional resources, property evaluation, and women in leadership within energy sectors.
Her research explores hydrocarbon production optimization through advanced analysis of rock properties, completion parameters, and reserve estimation methodologies. Primary interests include reservoir characterization techniques and technological innovations in shale gas extraction.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on reservoir engineering fundamentals applied to unconventional resources, with emerging emphasis on global resource distribution and classification methodologies. Recent work integrates practical industry experience with academic research frameworks.
